About

Julia Baylis is a multi-disciplinary artist from Montreal, based in London.

The overarching theme of Julia’s work is an exploration of the transition from girlhood to womanhood and the complexity of discovering freedom as a woman in a world not designed to support it.

Her photomontage work focuses on emancipation - the reclaiming of women’s bodies and overturning tired, oppressive narratives. They are a provocative and surreal exploration of female freedom and joy

Her photographer takes a more real approach capturing the intricacies of early womanhood. Focusing on moments of intimacy, happiness and growth.

All of her photos are taken on film and edited in the dark room.
